Day 2 of VBS done!

Hi, all! Megan here.

Today was yet another beautiful, sunny day. Before supper, the skies opened up and as I’m writing, it is still just pouring, thundering and lightening. It is a classic Mexican storm!

Most of the team was up by 7 and we were all at the church by 9. There were a few more kids today, and it was really neat to see some of the team members really beginning to connect with the kids.

Today’s games (over under and Bang) was led by Ben, with help from Brandon and Tyler. Emily has been doing an amazing job at leading crafts, and today she taught the kids how to make paper bag baskets with fish and bread coming out of it, to illustrate the story of Jesus feeding 5,000 people.

Cassie and Bailey have been our song leaders, and have been great at always remembering the actions and getting the kids into it with their enthusiasm!

After a beyond incredible meal of hearty vegetable soup and tacitos (chicken in tortillas, friend and then topped with sour cream, queso blanco (a kind of crumbled cheese special to Mexico), lettuce, tomatoes and guacamole), we did some planning for VBS. Tomorrow’s story is on Jesus’ death, and Thursday will be the gospel story.

After a solid planning session, we had some down time to play frisbee, futbol (soccer) or walk to the corner store.

As for VBS and the schedule, we are slowly starting to settle in to a routine. Planning and whatever prepping is required takes place after lunch, and the afternoon before supper is usually free time. The evening includes supper and a team meeting and worship session.

I wish I could post more photos, but as Terry’s data on his phone is all I have, here is my favourite photo of the day!

Here are a few prayer requests for you all:

Please pray that we would display Christ to the woman who is renting out the building where we are staying. She is not connected to the church or possibly any church, and we want to be examples of Jesus to her and her family.

There are several team members with colds and sore throats, or who feel like they’re on the verge of getting sick. I haven’t heard of many people who are feeling sick due to the different food, but please pray for protection for that as well!

Even with my earplugs last night, the night was loud and disrupted by dogs barking. It sounds like at least 10 dogs get into fights or bark-downs several times a night, and even the locals sleeping in the same area as us are having trouble sleeping … so prayers for rest and sleep would be great.

Again, thank you so much for reading, and please comment, as we will be able to read them out loud to the team for encouragement.

Hasta mañana! (See you tomorrow!)

  1. HOLA, team!
We had fish tacos tonight in honour of you guys being in Mexico! Clara, we had Caleb over and he said he only cried a few times yesterday (day 1 fully without you), but he's okay. We've sent him home with a full stomach & a pat on the back. We'll take care of him! ;)
Ben, my friend, I saw your mom today & she said that you are going straight from the trip to Caroline, you are blessed to be able to do both and a little crazy. We will pray for your adjustment... starting now!
Lynders, praying for you for ENERGY. You got this, girl. I know you're loving being back in Mexico... here's a big Mexican hug to you from me, I wish I was there to give you a real one! Remember all of the Spanish that we learned from our facebook Spanish-word-a-day app and go get 'em!
Megan, I can totally see how the security guard would say that you're too happy. When I read that I started laughing because I could TOTALLY see it. The best!
Everyone on the team... I'm very certain you're doing a GREAT JOB! Remember... it's not about what you do, it's about doing all things in love. We are so in need of Jesus to give us His love, so that we can give it to others. We're desperate for Him! Praying for you guys to realize just how much we need Jesus to LOVE! You're all amazing! Can't wait to hear your stories!
    Bless you, friends.
